Mother’s & Teacher’s Day

The Initiative included a mothers and teachers day event. The youth invited a hairdresser/manicurist from Stepanakert, the capital of Artsakh, who provided haircut and manicure for mothers and teachers. There is no hairdresser in all of Tsmakahogh and it takes a lot of effort to make a trip to the capital for a haircut. The original idea of the event was to provide a manicure to the women of the village. However, after two youth, who were members of the organizing subcommittee, went into every single house of the village and surveyed women on their desire to participate in such an event, the youth found out that the women had a need for a hair dresser more than a manicurist.

The event was hugely successful as 28 women participated. Melanya Mkrtumyan, a 12-year-old girl, who was spearheading this event, visited the houses of those 28 women a day before the event and asked them to register for specific time slots to come for their haircut or manicure. Melanya also created a flyer for the purpose of publicizing the event in the village. The hairdresser/manicurist stayed in the village for two nights to accommodate every woman who wanted to receive her services. Approximately 22 women got a haircut done while around 6 got manicures. The women were very grateful for the opportunity.
